SPECIAL EVENTS
ESSS hosts a range of events throughout the year, specifically tailored to allow students to develop their surgical interest, skills and portfolio through interacting with guest surgeons and speakers.
In 2019, Junior Vice President Aya Riad worked in partnership with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh to produce a Surgical Careers Roadshow, in which students had the chance to network at stalls hosted by volunteers from each surgical specialty. In addition, three talks from Professor Rowan Parks (RCSEd Vice President), Dr Paul Brennan, and Dr Kenneth McLean guided students on how to reach a career in surgery, how to construct a strong portfolio, and the future of the surgical field. The evening was very successful, with a great student turnout.
In Semester two, we are hoping to reintroduce our 'Women in Surgery' evening, to encourage and guide female medical students in their pursuit of a surgical career. We are also hoping to run an evening focussing on Breast Surgery and Cancer Awareness.
Our AGM will be held online on 31st March 2020. Head to our Facebook event for more details and role descriptions!
