How do I become a member?
Membership can be bought on sign up via the EUSA website here.
How much is it to become an ESSS member?
The general membership fee for the year 2023/24 is free and £5.00 for Surgical Skills Club (Per Academic Year).
How often do I need to renew my membership?
Annual membership lasts until the end of the academic year (August). If you wish to renew it, you must do so from September of the following year.
Membership benefits?
With membership, you will have access to our wide range of workshops and tutorials, which are specifically tailored to those seeking a career in surgery. Members also benefit from an extensive collection of resources, to guide the development of a surgical portfolio. National student opportunities are also advertised to our members.
Can I help out at events?
We are always looking for volunteers to help in the running of events – if you are interested, please message our Facebook page.
How do I get involved?
Follow us on Facebook (Edinburgh Student Surgical Society), Instagram and Twitter (@EdSurgSoc) to stay updated with all things ESSS! If you’re interested in joining our committee, please attend our annual AGM, which runs at the end of Semester 2.
How do I sign up to an event?
All our events are posted on Facebook. For non-ticketed events, you may click ‘going’. For ticketed events, a link will be posted on the Event page. To ensure you don’t miss out, please follow and like our Facebook page.

How often do you have events?
Events run regularly throughout the year, with 10-15 events per semester. Additionally, we hold a weekly surgical skills club, led by guest surgical trainees.
Can first-years join?
Of course! We hold a stall at the Fresher's Fair where you can register your interest or become a member. We also recruit for our First Year Representative Role; in this role, you'll be expected to liaise with first years, advertise events and encourage peers to get involved.
